About Guardsmen Inspections Canada Inc.

After working for various architectural firms in Newfoundland and Labrador for 14 years, Mike Guihan established the first independent roofing inspection service in Newfoundland in 1984. He has been active in all aspects of the construction industry from design to construction and project management for over forty years. Mike founded Guardsmen Inspections Canada Inc. In 1998.

He has provided independent building and roofing design consulting, on-site inspection services and conditional building inspections for a growing number of professional, institutional and commercial clients for over twenty-two years. Clients include Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, Public Works and Services Canada, Newfoundland Department of Public Works and Services and various corporate and NGO clients throughout the province.

Mr. Guihan has designed and built custom homes and small commercial buildings throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, Eastern Canada and the Eastern United States. He has inspected more than 4,000 homes and several hundred commercial properties since 1998.

Mike served as the National President of CAHPI from 2005 to 2007, as a director of the National Certification Authority for Canadian Home and Property Inspectors from 2006 to 2010, and has been a National Examiner for Home Inspectors since 2006. He has served as the second vice president of CAHPI Atlantic for Newfoundland from 2005 to the present and he continues to work to promote competency in the profession.

He has served as the sole technical inspector in Newfoundland and Labrador for the Residential Warranty Company of Canada, Progressive Home Warranty Solutions, and the Lux New Home Warranty Company since 2004. In that role, he is required to inspect new homes built under the warranty programs; inspect and evaluate homeowners’ complaints and claims; and interview new home builders who have applied to join the programs to evaluate their qualifications and abilities.
